Guest speaker: Guy Hall, Presenting: The Future of Electric Vehicles

Guy Hall, is a Global Technologist with 29 years of R&D and Leadership for Hewlett Packard in countries such as Germany, Canada, Slovenia, Russia, India, China, Costa Rica, Singapore, Hungary, England, and France. He became interested in Electric Vehicles (EVs) in 2010 as a solution to our environmental,  economic and security challenges.  His drive expanded the Sacramento Electric Auto Association membership 20 fold, and as its President, established SacEV as a 600 member regional organization with a talented board for EV knowledge, events and activities.  He is the Board Secretary of the national Electric Auto Association and a Director on the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition. Recently, Hall became the first driver to have navigated an EV from the lower 48 through Canada to Fairbanks in his Tesla Tijuana To Tundra Tour (T5), while promoting electric transportation with utilities, government agencies and news media in route. The Hall family currently owns two Nissan LEAFs, a Chevy Volt, and Tesla Model X.

Resistance to Bayou Bridge Pipeline

Resistance to the Bayou Bridge Pipeline

Freelance environmental writer Chris Staudinger will speak about the proposed Bayou Bridge Pipeline, which has garnered national resistance as a leg on the southern terminus of the infamous Dakota Access Pipeline network. He will present reasons why this new pipeline project (out of the thousands in Louisiana) has faced such strong opposition, and he will present the most recent developments in the ongoing story.

"Walking the walk: Lessons from 10 years in the world of Louisiana climate change policy"

SIERRA CLUB NEW ORLEANS GROUP, TULANE GREEN CLUB, and the League of Women Voters of New Orleans PRESENT: AN EVENING WITH WRITER AMY CLIPP (Louisiana Coastal Master Plan) 

Speaker for April 9th is Amy Clipp, who worked on the first draft of the Coastal Master Plan. The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority will present the next 50 year master plan to the Louisiana Legislature next month, and the Legislature must vote up or down on the plan. The plan projects that if the state takes no action, more than 4,000 square mile of coastal land could be lost over the next half century.  The researchers concluded that New Orleans’ infrastructure would be the hardest hit in the state, losing approximately $1.7 billion in public structures such as roads, ports, and buildings.

Bicycle Share is Coming to New Orleans!

On Feb 12th, The New Orleans Group of the Sierra Club will host Dan Favre of Bike Easy, who will share all of the information about the Bike Share coming to New Orleans! Dan has been working with the City of New Orleans and Social Bicycles, the company chosen to bring Bike Share to New Orleans.

What is a Bike Share? Bike share is a network of bicycles that allows users to make short trips quickly, conveniently and affordably. Bike share is in over 60 American cities. A bicycle share system (e.g. 700 bicycles) would have a profound impact on improving New Orleans’ transportation network.

What impact will it have on New Orleans? As you know, the benefits of bicycling are many. The bike share extends those benefits to everyday people who don’t usually ride bicycles. More bicycles on the road have created safer streets in communities around the world. Bicycle share gets more people on bicycles and improves safety for everyday riders.

Come learn how you can get a bike station in your neighborhood!!

USACE Hearing on St. Claude Bridge Lock Replacement

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE ON ST. CLAUDE BRIDGE LOCK REPLACEMENT PROJECT

What: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Or leans District is hosting a public meeting to provide the public with an update on the Mississippi River, Baton Rouge to the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, Louisiana, New Industrial Canal Lock and Connecting Channels Project.

The meeting will also provide a venue for community members to submit comments on the Draft Integrated General Reevaluation Report (GRR) and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS), which is currently available for a 45-day public comment period. The comment period for the draft GRR/SEIS report ends on February 20, 2017.

6:00 to 6:30 p.m. Open House

6:30 p.m. Brief introduction, presentation of the project, 20 minute question and answer period, and public comment period.
